New York Farm Viability Institute Seeks Public Relations
Specialist

The New York Farm Viability Institute, Inc. in Syracuse, NY, is seeking an energetic, self-starting individual to serve as its public relations specialist. The person in this position supports the work of the Institute by ensuring a high level of visibility and support for the Institute from agricultural producers and other agricultural professionals, government agencies, legislators, and agribusiness firms. The position also supports the Institute’s fundraising efforts at state and national levels to secure funds for operations and grant programs.

The public relations specialist is responsible for effective communication of Institute objectives, policies, and programs to a wide variety of audiences, either independently or as a member of the Institute’s management team. Specific responsibilities include development and oversight of the Institute’s web site, extensive writing of press releases, articles and reports as well as developing other promotional material that explains the Institute’s impact on economic development, maintaining the rural character of the state, and the prosperity of the state’s farm and food production sectors. The position requires some travel within NYS. Occasional out-of-state travel may also be required.

The New York Farm Viability Institute is an independent, non-profit corporation that fosters a vibrant agricultural sector in New York by supporting applied research, education, information transfer, technology adoption and market analysis to reduce practical barriers to the success of agricultural enterprises.

The NYFVI was founded in the spring of 2004, with initial funding from USDA and the NY State Department of Agriculture and Markets. Its seven-member Board of Directors represents the leading state agricultural organizations. The College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Cornell University, Cornell Cooperative Extension, the SUNY Colleges of Agriculture and Technology and the NYS Department of Agriculture and Markets are key collaborators. The Institute’s current operating budget exceeds $8.3 million.
