New York Farm Viability Institute Seeks Public Relations
Specialist
The New York Farm Viability Institute, Inc. in Syracuse, NY, is seeking an
energetic, self-starting individual to serve as its public relations specialist.
The person in this position supports the work of the Institute by ensuring a
high level of visibility and support for the Institute from agricultural
producers and other agricultural professionals, government agencies,
legislators, and agribusiness firms. The position also supports the Institute’s
fundraising efforts at state and national levels to secure funds for operations
and grant programs.
The public relations specialist is responsible for effective communication of
Institute objectives, policies, and programs to a wide variety of audiences,
either independently or as a member of the Institute’s management team. Specific
responsibilities include development and oversight of the Institute’s web site,
extensive writing of press releases, articles and reports as well as developing
other promotional material that explains the Institute’s impact on economic
development, maintaining the rural character of the state, and the prosperity of
the state’s farm and food production sectors. The position requires some travel
within NYS. Occasional out-of-state travel may also be required.
The New York Farm Viability Institute is an independent, non-profit corporation
that fosters a vibrant agricultural sector in New York by supporting applied
research, education, information transfer, technology adoption and market
analysis to reduce practical barriers to the success of agricultural
enterprises.
The NYFVI was founded in the spring of 2004, with initial funding from USDA and
the NY State Department of Agriculture and Markets. Its seven-member Board of
Directors represents the leading state agricultural organizations. The College
of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Cornell University, Cornell Cooperative
Extension, the SUNY Colleges of Agriculture and Technology and the NYS
Department of Agriculture and Markets are key collaborators. The Institute’s
current operating budget exceeds $8.3 million.
